Mimiko Finally Dumps Labour Party, Declares For PDP

The rumours and speculations about Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s political future was yesterday resolved as he announced his official defection from the Labour Party for the Peoples Democratic Party at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa.

Mimiko who made the declaration said he was moving to the PDP in order to galvanise support for President Jonathan’s re-election in the South-West zone of the country.
His defection will be a big loss for LP, which in the early days of Edo State Goveror Adams Oshiomole had lost the former labour leader to the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Continue reading....

Mimiko was received into the PDP at the reconciliation meeting of the South West PDP chaired by the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, and was welcomed into the party by Vice -President Dr Nnamadi Sambo.

The Ondo governor said he was not the only one joining the PDP, but members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly from Ondo State on the Labour Party have also defected with him.
“By this decision to return to the PDP, we have taken in the overall interest of our people and our nation, and its democracy which for those who are perceptive enough to notice, is now mortally endangered by a constellation of forces which must be confronted,” he said.

He noted that he has been a staunch supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, and with the 2015 table for elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) putting Presidential and National Assembly elections on the same day, there would be conflict of interests if he remained in the LP.
