Soldiers Open Fire On Protesting UniJos Students, Kill 3

Military men supposedly shot three students during a protest today, November 25, Tuesday, at the Bauchi road campus of the University of Jos. One of the killed was blind.
Amplified Radio reports that millitary arrest 9 students including the SUG president.

A 300-level Political Science student of the university, who did not want to be recognized for fear of persecution by the police, revealed this to Premium Times over a telephone. The shooting was carried out by military men who stormed the school premises and arrested some students.

The witness said the affected student was about entering the school grounds when he got shot by a fully armed soldier who was rushing protesting students. Another student said: “I narrowly escaped; the military came into our classes and shot some of us while some were arrested.”

Ibrahim Musa, who also was on the protest, said two students were shot adding that “I saw one shot on the leg and another in the chest.” Continue reading....

 The UNIJOS students had in the early hours of Tuesday continued their protest over the increase of the school’s development level, which is now N10,000, the increase of acceptance fee for fresh students, N25,000 and the N10, 000 increase in tuition fee for returning students.
Later the news appeared that university would be closed down till further notice.

On Monday, the protesting students held the university authority hostage, barricaded the Bauchi road campus, hindering free flow of traffic.

The University Registrar, Jully Dandam, had in a statement, said a seven-person committee has been inaugurated to look into the agitations.
