Cultists Murder Kogi Varsity Professor

The deceased, Associate Professor Justice Olurotimi Otitolaye 
Suspected cult members have reportedly murdered an Associate Professor, identified as Justice Olurotimi Otitolaye, at the Kogi State University, KSU, Anyigba.

Vanguard reports that the lecturer, who has been at the forefront in the fight against examination malpractice in the institution, was on Friday night kidnapped around Stadium Road, near the campus while on his way to purchase items from the supermarket.

His lifeless body was reportedly discovered on Sunday at Ejule, about 8 kilometres from the school with bullet wounds.

Witnesses said the cultists fired several shots into the air to scare people away before abducting the lecturer last week.

The deceased popularly known as ‘Otis’ was a renowned agriculturist, who was a former pre-degree director and a lecturer in Faculty of Agriculture in the Department of Agric Economics and Extension at the university. Continue after the cut.....



Reacting to the incident, students and lecturers lament the spate of cultist killings in the institution, and urged the University management to take urgent step in curbing it.

When KSU Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU was contacted, he hinted that the body has called an emergency meeting to look into the murder.
In related development, one Jimoh Faruk, a 400 level Mathematical Science student in the institution was also reportedly killed by cultists.

Faruk was gunned down around Stadium Road on Saturday night.
It would be recalled that the Kwara state police command have arrested three suspects of a six man gang who attacked and robbed the family of a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Bayo Lawal, in Ilorin.
